The Healthy Bully-free Workplace - Massachusetts has a plan
Updated: Jan 20, 2019
Have you ever been on the receiving end of seemingly inexplicable bad behavior in the workplace that led to disillusionment, health problems, depression or worse? As workplace bullies destroy lives and organizations, Massachusetts has been building support for Senate Docket Number 1355, legislation that will hold employers accountable for bullying, giving severely bullied workers a right to seek damages. I am watching the progress of this legislation with great interest. As noted by the 2017 Workplace Bullying Institute, over a third of workers - 60.4 million - will likely experience or witness bullying during their working lives. Right now, most employers simply ignore the problem or support the bully. This legislation would right a wrong: no longer will abused workers be left without legal redress. Thirty states have introduced workplace bullying legislation; Massachusetts may be the state that actually enacts it.
